Reliabililty Ride

To get your two wheels rolling for 2024, we have set up a 4-date Reliability Ride:
20th Jan | 10th Feb | 2nd Mar | 23rd Mar

Our RedSky Bikes Head Mechanic Stu has devised 4 routes to choose from, each one is a little bit longer and a little bit harder.

An opportunity to test your fitness or kick-start your season with challenges to aim for.

It's FREE to enter.

It's a road ride but use whatever bike takes your fancy.

Rides start at 08.30am outside the RedSky Bikes shop which is opposite Aldi at 3 Campion Square, Thirsk YO7 1GW. There is plenty of free parking.

Collect your Brevet Card from the shop so your route choice can be logged when you finish. And keep it safe for the next go.

There will be hot drinks for you when you return as long as it is before 2.30pm as the shop closes then.

Join us on the next date to either better your time, try the next route or beast yourself again so you can impress all your mates!

Below are the routes in Strava. You can download, upload or memorise them but these are the routes:

For those wondering what a Reliability Ride is or consists of here is a brief copy-and-paste from grandfondoguide.com

"In the U.K., a reliability ride is known as a test of a cyclist’s reliability and that of their bike coming out of the winter period.

The emphasis is on fitness, self-reliance and navigational skills, although they are also used by competitive cyclists for training ahead of the racing season.

They are a great way to get in some early-season miles and work on your base endurance.

The route is not signposted but a basic route map or description may be provided (along with a GPS file these days). There are no feed stations, timing chips or souvenir t-shirts etc, although refreshments are available following the ride.

The ride is not a race. Like a normal cycling club ride, it takes place on open roads and without marshals etc. It is imperative that participants ride responsibly and in accordance with the Highway Code".

Got it? Any queries or question, give us a call on 01845 444464 otherwise please share and let all your cycling buddies know about it.

HOW IT WILL WORK ON THE DAY:

  • You wake up with plenty of time to check the weather and kit yourself out accordingly

  • Make sure you know your route and have it mapped on either your electronic mapping device, paper map or memorised

  • Eat some fuel food and make your way to RedSky Bikes

  • Grab your Brevet Card from the shop's front desk and look after it

  • When the whistle blows at 08.30am start your engines and off you go

  • Enjoy making your way around the route returning to RedSky Bikes where a member of the team will sign and time stamp your ride

  • The shop shuts at 2.30pm so make sure you are back before that or you have failed the reliability ride (better luck on the next date)

  • Share the hell out of it on your socials tagging us in @redskybikesltd and using the HashTag #redskybikesreliabilityride

  • Upload all the photos you took of your mates struggling up the climbs or that flushed-faced selfie

  • Tell all your friends how epic it was as you don't want them to miss out on the next RedSky Bikes Reliability Ride #fomo

  • Pen the next date in your diary and repeat 3 more times either on the same route or progress to the next more testing one
